In 2000 the Colombian legislature approved a law aimed at promoting equal participation of women in high-level state offices through the adoption of a quota system that orders that at least 30% of public offices are occupied by women.
In 2000 the Colombian legislature approved a law aimed at promoting equal participation of women in high-level state offices through the adoption of a quota system that orders that at least 30% of public offices are occupied by women. While for some sectors, and especially for the women´s movements this law marked a fundamental advance in the search of equality regarding political participation and representation of women, for other sectors this was unacceptable since it entailed establishing an unjustified privilege in favor of them.
