This document examines the situation of female victims of human rights violations due to the Colombian armed conflict and their ability to effectively access justice.
The dynamics of the internal armed conflict in Colombia affect women differently. They have been victims of multiple violations of their rights because the very fact of being women, and have disproportionately experienced the violence perpetrated during war under the existing patriarchal gender arrangements in our society. Although in recent years there have been normative advances that make it possible to make visible, prevent and confront violence against women on the basis of gender, and recognize victims as rights holders, there is a huge gap between these normative advances and the reality of women.
