This work questions the myth of racial democracy in Colombia. According to this myth, in Colombia there is no racism because, unlike South Africa or the United States, all races and cultures fused into a equalitarian synthesis. This foundational belief of Colombian identity is the background of the denial of racial discrimination by the state and society which daily reproduces the invisibility and marginalization of Afro-Colombians. This book is the full version of the Report on Racial Discrimination and Rights of Afro-Colombian population. This work, unprecedented in Colombia for its subject and scope, has two purposes. First, to offer a solid and accurate diagnosis of the situation of Afro-Colombians and the degree of implementation and violation of their rights. Second, to make concrete proposals and recommendations for public policy to help realize the right to equality and overcome the myth of racial democracy.
