Technical Report for Alternatives to Imprisonment for Drug-Related Offenses
This document, which was prepared by a Technical Working Group led by Rodrigo Uprimny and made up of experts from the region, offers a range of alternatives to imprisonment that countries in the Americas could implement.
Countries in the Americas have been pushing alternative responses to the focus on criminal measures, especially for consumption and posession for personal use, understanding the problem of drug-use as a public health issue, which honors states’ human rights obligations, and that the limited resources of the states in the region ought to be used in the most efficient way.
