This publication examines the complex and opaque process of transitional justice in Colombia. The process of transitional justice is intended to maintain democratic order and sustainable peace in times where a country is moving from out of war. A fundamental challenge to this process is the need to protect victims of human rights violations while simultaneously negotiating with the perpetrators who may be claiming impunity. The inherent tensions of transitional justice are even more complex in Colombia because current negotiations peace between the government and the paramilitary groups exclude other armed actors; hence will in the best case only result in fragmented peace. The studies contained in this book offer empirical, regulatory and conceptual tools that can help understand this complex issue. The conclusions include reflections on possible stable and just solutions.
